Review

I truly struggled with this book, but in the end I'm glad that I kept going.

My book club is working through the FBAA universe one month at a time and we read this book 4th, after the first three FBAA books. I am typically an audio book girl, and I was bored to tears for the first 10-12 hours of this 25-hour book. Yes, there is a lot of world building which I am not a stranger to, but the way it was done here didn't capture my interest at all.

Once my attention was caught though it was difficult to tear my attention away... I found myself thinking about what was going to happen next while I wasn't able to read and looking forward to when I could return to the story. Learning of the history she grew up understanding, what parts were true versus which were false and seeing the connections to the three books I've already finished went a long way towards holding my interest and deepening my understanding of the overall story being told. We learn a lot more here about how the gods lived before they went to sleep, start to understand some of their mystique, and start to gain an inkling of how they impacted the future.

I would have finished this book anyhow, but I am glad that I pushed through as, in the end, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.
