Review
This book was a true departure from what I normally read, and I am keeping that in mind throughout my review. The tale was mostly sweet and heartwarming, but I did struggle with it a but as it is intended for young readers. The vocabulary seemed to be quite a bit more advanced than I would imagine a story for 6 to 13-year-olds being... words such as duplication, lethargy, future contemporaries, cravat, carapace, etc. I feel if I were a preteen I or elementary schooler I might feel that I needed to look up words to understand what they mean. I do see that it would be a learning opportunity, but as someone who used reading as an escape growing up, feeling that I had to do "homework" to understand what I'm reading might take away from the enjoyment. I feel the writing is unnecessarily advanced and the tale would have the same impact with more common verbiage.
That being said, the tale is cute, and the story is interesting, once I get past the vocabulary disconnect. I'd recommend it to parents of kids with a disclaimer about the comprehension level.
