Summer Shot picks up right after One Shot, following the Wyverns hockey team and their Marketing and PR crew as they head into summer break. While the story starts and ends in the present, the bulk of the book takes place as a flashback to that summer in between school years. I liked the structure—it gives the story a unique rhythm and lets us see how the characters spent their time away from the rink while still building toward what’s coming next.
This one definitely feels like a bridge book, more focused on character development and setting up future storylines than major drama or action. Even so, I enjoyed the glimpse into their summer lives and the groundwork it laid for what’s ahead. Now that the tension has been built, I’m really looking forward to seeing everything come together in book three.
