I definitely have a soft spot for books where one of the main characters is an author, and Sweet Addiction completely delivered. Set in Kroydon Hills, this book is part of a spin-off series that follows the children of the characters from Kings of Kroydon Hills. While it’s connected to that original series, you can read this series without having read Kings first. This story focuses on Rome, an MMA fighter, and Dillon, an aspiring author, who have known each other for most of their lives. When they finally get what should be their perfect opportunity to be together, everything falls apart thanks to a classic miscommunication trope.
A few years later, the story leans hard into the fake dating trope—one of my absolute favorites—and Bella Matthews executes it beautifully. The relationship feels convincing, from lying to family, friends, and the media, to the secrets they’re keeping and the lengths they’re willing to go for each other. The tension between Rome and Dillon is chef’s kiss, the spice is hot and steamy, and the writing is smooth and engaging throughout. As book two in this five-book series, it left me very excited to keep reading and spend more time with these characters and this universe.
