Review

Wow… this book absolutely tore my heart to pieces in the best way. I usually avoid emotionally gutting stories because they leave me wiped out, but since this was a book club pick, I dove in — and honestly, I’m glad I didn’t skip it. There’s something so powerful about the way the author builds the story arc, letting each character’s emotional journey unfold with this slow, intentional beauty. I’m a sucker for stories that are literally told as stories, and the framing of a mother revisiting her past while preparing for a major moment gave the narration this intimate, almost confessional feel. It pulled me in deeper than I expected.

The way the characters’ struggles intertwined, shaping the woman she eventually becomes, really hit home for me — especially since we only get a tiny glimpse of who she is in the present day. It made the emotional payoff feel layered and real, like every hurt, choice, and memory was building toward something bigger. If you’re in the mood for something beautifully written, deeply emotional, and guaranteed to leave your heart in a puddle, this is the book you need to grab ASAP. Just… maybe have tissues nearby. You’ve been warned.
