Review

I’ve seen some wildly mixed opinions about this book—some of my friends absolutely loved it, while others couldn’t even finish it. For me, it landed somewhere in the middle. It wasn’t one of my top reads of the year, but it also wasn’t a total miss. I finished it without much struggle, but there were definitely parts that just didn’t land. It’s not about the spice or the darkness—those were fine—it’s more that certain scenes and moments felt a little flat, like they were missing that spark of energy or emotion that keeps me fully engaged.

When the spice kicked in, it was actually pretty good, and I did enjoy those moments. But overall, I never really connected with the characters. Usually, I can find some emotional thread or spark that draws me in, but this time, I felt like an outsider just watching the story unfold. There wasn’t any point where I felt invested in what happened to them, and that lack of connection really held me back from loving the book. That said, I’m still curious enough to give book two a chance—maybe it’ll bring the depth and connection I was missing this time around.
