Review

I took a few days to let this story really sink in because it resonated with me on so many levels. What I loved most was how the characters transformed from being rival authors locked in a sharp, antagonistic dynamic to slowly learning to soften—not just toward each other, but toward themselves. The emotional depth was so well done, showing that before they could even begin to open themselves to the possibility of romance, they first had to find a way to love themselves. I’ve always had a soft spot for Regency-era stories because there’s something inherently romantic and sweet about the setting, but this book added an unexpected grit that made it stand out even more.

From hiding beneath a wagon to exploring a run-down location filled with shadows and secrets, there’s a physical rawness to the backdrop that perfectly matches the emotional weight of their journey. The characters are layered with internal turmoil, each believing themselves unworthy or unlovable, and watching them confront those fears was both heartbreaking and uplifting. Their growth doesn’t just affect their relationship—it also spills into their connections with family and friends, making the story feel so full and authentic. Alexandra Vasti has once again delivered a book that is tender, passionate, and unforgettable, cementing her as one of my go-to authors.
