Review

The Floating World completely surprised me—in the best way. I went into it blind, not even reading the blurb, since it was a book club pick recommended by a fellow member. I’d heard good things about the author, but I really had no idea what to expect. What I found was a richly layered story filled with emotional depth and beautiful world-building. The main characters, a man trying to reclaim his forgotten past and a woman desperate to escape hers, are both compelling and raw. I loved watching them uncover their own strength while being pushed by fate and danger to protect the people they care about.

What really hooked me was the contrast between the grounded world and the mysterious, ethereal world that floats above. That concept alone had me itching for more—there’s just so much potential there! I only wish we had a little more time exploring that upper realm. Fingers crossed book two dives deeper into that side of things, because I am ready. Overall, this was such a great read—atmospheric, emotional, and full of tension—and I’m really glad our club picked it up. I’m already looking forward to the sequel coming later this year.
