Uniquely in Love is such a fun yet emotional second-chance hockey romance, and I absolutely loved diving into it. Second-chance stories are some of my favorites because the characters already share a history, and it makes the emotions hit deeper right from the start. This book balanced that perfectly by weaving in flashbacks of their original relationship with their present-day reconnection. It gave me both the thrill of watching their romance bloom again and the ache of knowing how much they had to overcome to get there. I found myself fully invested, yelling at them more than once to just talk to each other—the miscommunications and silence were frustrating, but they also added to the authenticity of their journey and drove the story forward in a meaningful way.
One of the highlights for me was the epilogues. Rather than just giving us a glimpse a month or two down the road, the author really took us far into the future, which I always appreciate. It gave me a solid sense of where these characters were heading and left me with a satisfying sense of closure. Having read this author’s Christmas and Halloween books before, this was my first taste of her writing outside of holiday-themed stories, and I have to say, I enjoyed her spin on sports romance just as much. While I’m a little bummed that book two won’t be out until next year, I’m excited that I still have a whole backlist of her work to explore in the meantime.
